He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. 2 Samuel 22:17-22
What it means: When we are going through a hard time or struggling as David did, God is there to rescue us! It isn’t because he HAS to or is commanded to but because he wants to! How comforting is that? God knows when we struggle and he feels our struggle! He sent his only son down to Earth so we could be bonded in knowing and experiencing pain. Most often, when it rains it pours but he is there to watch over and protect us. There is no storm too big or too small for him.
Up for the challenge: When I tend to let my worries build up too long, my wall eventually breaks. That was me today, so I took the day off. I put my phone up, I took a nap in the middle of the day, I snuggled with my pup, I ate some chocolate and I prayed a LOT. Of course when I finally open my Daily Bread, this is my verse of the day. He always works like that doesn’t he? I know everyone doesn’t have the luxury to take the day off, but what can you do to rest in knowing his presence in the middle of your storm? How can you show your trust?
Prayer: Lord thank you for always loving us and being there for us. Lord many of us are struggling today, many will struggle tomorrow and many the next day. I pray that we can find peace in knowing you are there to rescue us. I pray that we can release all our anxieties on fixing everything and just trust you. Please fill our hearts with your strength during this time. Amen.
